3 Seconds iPhone Jailbreak

iPhone - Jailbreak

I never needed to jailbreak my iPhone, but after getting an iPad I realized that I need a 3G wifi router. The problem is that you can only get the application if you have jailbroken your iPhone. Another problem was that you can only jailbreak the 3.1.3 FW only if you have do so previously. Which I haven’t.

The great guys at iPhone-Dev-Team and Comex released a new jailbreak dubbed Spirit.  It took 3 seconds to jailbreak and now I have MyWi installed. Today I’m a happy man.

To jailbreak your iPhone, follow the below steps – I’m running Windows 7 32-bit:

  • Download Spirit.
  • Connect your iPhone via USB
  • Right Click on the Spirit application and in Properties select Windows98/ME compatibility Mode.
  • Right Click on the Spirit application again and run as administrator
  • Run the Spirit Application
  • Click on Jailbreak
  • Bam your done, your iPhone will restart and Cydia installed. Enjoy.

Ping.Fm

It seems that Ping.Fm has been having issues of late, double posts, no posts and disappearing links. I hope they are not disappearing anytime soon.

Evernote

Evernote

If you haven’t tried Evernote then stop reading this and head to their site and download this nifty app. I have it on my iPad, iPhone, my work notebook, and Mac and I just love it. The idea is simple, if you ever had to do some research but had a hard time organizing your research material then Evernote is for you. Whether your surfing the Web, or tweeting, or just reading an interesting article you can send it to your Evernote account where it will be placed in your folder for reading and sorting later. Simple but amazing how useful it can be.

Combine this with Instapaper and you cannot be beaten, trust me.

Production House Ready

Now my collection is complete. Adobe released the trial versions of their new apps (CS5)  yesterday and needless to say I got em all.  I haven’t had much time today to play with them, but Photoshop and Illustrator feel great. However, it seems I will have to stick to CS4 for both Premier and After Effects since they need a 64-Bit operating system and I’m running a crappy 32 bit.

Fruity Loops – Music Sequencing

Fruity Loops

Another distraction and totally awesome way to kill any spare time I have, I bought Fruity Loops a few days ago and I just can’t seem to get myself away from the keyboard.  The app is a great digital sequencer, the interface is intuitive and within 15 min I was creating some interesting music. I also bought a few sample, loops and licks from p5audio which are just great.

With the small number of loops and samples that I have, the possibilities are still endless. All I have to do now is wait for Adobe CS5 then my production house will be complete: Music sequencing, Video effects & editing, Graphics design and of course 3d rendering. This summer is going to be busy.

Also did you know that most of the music we hear is base on the same four bars? These gentlemen think so:

10 sites that will kill your productivity

If you are ever bored or just don’t feel like working these sites can really kill your time:

  • Cracked: Lists and lists about everything you can imagine, from interesting stuff to stuff that are just plain silly.
  • Listverse: Huge collection of lists, and again, the topics range from interesting to silly.
  • Digg: The grand daddy of social news, I can spend hours reading news and more reading the comments submitted by users.
  • Ars Technica: The art of Technology, another favorite of mine. I loved the history of the Amiga series.
  • Newsvine: Another social news site, though it seems Newsvine is shifting towards traditional journalism.
  • Wikipedia: Do I need to say more, I’ve spent so many hours jumping from topic to topic.
  • YouTube: Still a great place, even though most shows have been removed.
  • The Onion: Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I just love the humor on this site.
  • Mail Online: Yes I admit browsing this site…from time to time.
  • The Daily Galaxy: I’m a cosmology, astronomy and physics junkie and I love this site.

Personal Wifi for the iPad

I have been researching on how to use my iPhone as my own portable wifi for use with my iPad.

It seems Netshare is no longer being sold by The AppStore, and my only option is to jailbreak my iPhone and use PDAnet. Since I upgraded to 3.1.3 and have not jailbroken this phone previously I guess I’m out of options if I want stick to my iPhone and iPad combo.

I could use the 3G router for the Nokia E series, but that would mean I need to carry an extra phone around.

I guess that would do until the IPhone Dev Team decide to release jailbreak for 3.1.3 or maybe just wait for 4.0.

iPad…where have been all my life?

I got my iPad three days ago from a dealer here in Dubai and I must say that I’m impressed. It is not only the design and function that impresses me, but the potential that this gadget has.

I’m an avid magazine reader and through the Pixel-Mags Apps I can now enjoy almost all of my magazines on my iPad. No more carrying magazines around, no more storing issues,  I can search through the archives in an instant and plus it is eco friendly.

Now all I have to wait for is Amazon’s Kindle App and I can transfer all my books and I will be in iHeaven. The iPad will be available in Dubai by the end of this month, or so they say, however if you want things when you want them right away, just like me, then be prepared to pay a premium.

Into the Great Wide Open

The Magic Door

I’ve been meaning to kick start this blog for a long time, but world events and my schedule - in other words my procrastination -  have kept this blog doormat for a long time.

Not anymore though, I’m back to blogging with a new look and a slightly different approach. This is the first post and we’ll see when the next one will appear and the one after that, and if all goes well and I have posted more than 10 blogs by then end of the month then definitely I’m back.
